Bark, sawdust, secret science, and green fingers

It was great to hear from Jane Allard that after selling plants from her home for nearly three months she has raised £466 in aid of SpArC – our local sports and arts centre here in Bishop’s castle. We helped Jane get started this time by donating some bags of SylvaGrow® peat-free compost which is made from co-products of our sawmilling process. These include composted fine bark and sawdust as well as other peat-free ingredients in a special formulation. SylvaGrow® is endorsed by the Royal Horticultural Society and the firm which makes it is part owned by the same family that owns the sawmill.

The takings were over £50 up on last year but down from the first year’s sales which was when the Covid lock-downs were in place. Jane is delighted with the response. “I’m aware that, post-Covid, people are going out to nurseries much more now and I was not expecting such a good result.”
