Quality, service and partnership are key for Denis Brown & Son of Woodchester - and always have been

Founded in 1927, Denis Brown and Son – a valued customer of Ransfords - is now managed day-to-day by Ed Brown the third generation of the family, the grandson of the founder Denis, and son of Peter Brown and his wife Anita who, although past retirement age, still play an active part.

The relationship with Charles Ransford & Son started in 2010 when issues of timber quality and levels of customer service from existing suppliers came to the fore. “There were problems with the quality of the timber itself with poorly cut product hidden in packs as well as variable consistency of delivery,” says Ed Brown. “My father and his father before him built the business on the back of quality and service but we found ourselves increasingly thwarted by our suppliers.”

Things have improved dramatically since the switch to Ransfords for key parts of its supply. “When you deal with Ransfords the guesswork is taken out of the process,” says Ed. “The quality is assured, the deliveries take place exactly when promised, and the paperwork is accurate. If we have a query of any kind we pick up the ‘phone and talk to someone at the mill or to our sales manager Chris Offa and it’s dealt with immediately. Could we ask for more?”

For our part Denis Brown & Son are just the kind of customer we appreciate. They set store by quality, they recognise the value of British Grown timber, and they share our service values. “We wish the company every success as the third generation takes the business forward,” says Alistair Evans, our operations director. “We’re a family business ourselves with much in common and much that we can achieve together as we work in partnership.”

Ransfords own 2000 acres of woodland which we calculate stores 386,000 tonnes of CO2.
So we’re doing our bit!.
