How to turn a few bags of compost into £450 for local causes
It was great to hear from Jane Allard recently, an especially green-fingered supporter of Sparc and many other local causes. It has become something of a tradition in recent years for us to supply Jane a with a few bags of award-winning (and RHS Endorsed) SylvaGrow® peat-free compost which is manufactured from composted fine bark and sawdust which arise from our sawmilling operation. Jane then works her horticultural magic to grow plants for sale and thus raise funds.
It’s been a difficult growing season with appalling weather and Jane has had one or two health issues to cope with (thankfully now behind her) but thanks to her efforts – and those of her friend Jean Shirley who stepped in to help when needed – a total of over £450 has been raised.
Hats off to Jane and to Jean both for the help and for the donation of extra plants. Between them they produced an astonishing result in difficult circumstances. Another example of how fortunate we are to live in a community like Bishop’s Castle!
