Remembering Alan Evans

Around 500 people from Bishop’s Castle, from Shropshire and the midlands, and many from much further afield (including Holland!) gathered at St John the Baptist Church on Saturday 14th January for the funeral of Mr Alan Evans, a major shareholder in Charles Ransford & Son Ltd.

His family have been deeply touched by the many kind cards and letters they have received and were greatly heartened to be joined at the Community College after the service by so many friends from near and far. Thanks to everyone involved in the catering and bar arrangements which were excellent.

£2600 was raised in the retiring collection which will be divided between the High Dependency Unit of the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and the Midlands Air Ambulance.

The picture shows the family’s 1908 Burrell General Purpose Traction Engine steamed up and on its way to meet the hearse at the church. It is driven by a friend of Alan’s, one of many volunteers who helped make this a send-off to be remembered.
