Round bits to square bits…and back again!

Sawmilling is a fascinating activity and, as in any other business, success relies on being able to supply the customer with what they want. So,

whilst our logs arrive as round sections of tree the first thing we do is cut them up into square bits of useable timber like posts and rails. However, some customers need round posts for aesthetic or practical reasons so we then need to precision-machine the square bits of timber back into rounds again as in this large consignment of tree stakes which will support trees as they establish.

Of course, in the process of turning square bits into round bits (and square bits into round bits!) we create a lot of wood chips. Since our policy is one of zero waste these are dried and used to heat the covered loading bay pictured here: a big help in the shorter days of winter!
