Visit by students at Bishop’s Castle Community College

Lightfoot Enterprises and the Community College, Bishop’s Castle (the secondary school which serves the town and surrounding villages) have been working together to introduce pupils to the delights of woodlands. As part of the College’s enrichment programme, a group of Year 7 pupils have been going into the woods to experience the richness & diversity of the woodland environment, finding out how to conserve the landscape and how to manage and utilise woodlands sustainably. Part of that programme involved a visit to our sawmill to find out more about how trees are turned into timber, and about the many different career paths available in forestry and sawmilling. Many of the people who work at our mill attended Bishop’s Castle Community College so it was great to see how interested they were in what goes on here – especially in our new Timber Treatment Centre in which this pictures was taken.
