At last we can start building the new Co-op in Bishop’s Castle. It feels like we’ve been jumping through hoops for months now but Charles Ransford & Son Ltd are proud to announce that we are starting to build.
The site fencing is up and construction will start in January then we hand the project over to the Co-op. The main contractors are WBC from Leominster and we’ve asked that they use local businesses to supply materials as much as possible. The new store will be bigger, better stocked, and more accessible than the current premises in the Town with parking outside, a cash machine, Amazon lockers for online deliveries, and a charger for electric vehicles. The store will be open by Christmas 2026 and we believe it will be a significant improvement for the Town.
FUN FACT: The new store will be built on 48 piles each sunk 14 metres into the ground since the ground survey revealed that, many millions of years before we came along, this part of Bishop’s Castle was a river bed!
